The King of Clay, Rafael Nadal, not only reigned supreme at this year’s Roland Garros but has simultaneously become the first man to win seven French Open titles.

Nadal defeated World No.1 Novak Djokovic 6-4, 6-3, 2-6, 7-5 during the span of 2 days in the finals due to the rain delays.

Nadal did have the upperhand –and looks like he sealed a victory- during the first two sets but the tables turned when rain started pelting down.

Djokovic managed to take full advantage of the slippery court and heavy rain-soaked balls to reach 6-2., just before the officials decided to delay the match to the next day.

With pressure riding high at the resume of the match, both tried to hold on to their serve but Djokovic was broken in the fourth set when he served 2-1 and ended the match with a double fault.

A contrast of image immediately emerged- Nadal jumped up into his box to hug and thank all his core supporters –his family, friends- while Djokovic sat quietly disappointed in his chair, reflecting on what happened.

With 11 major singles titles under his belt –tied with Sweden’s Bjorn Borg and Australis’s Rod Laver- we can only look forward to Nadal adding more to it, perhaps even beating Roger Federer’s record of 16.

Unfortunately for Djokovic, he just missed his chance of holding four grand slam trophies.

Michael is tactical for all the things and a clever driver as we know, Alonso is a type of driver who grew up with us. he really doesn’t care about the detail which made me feel a bit lazy, and he leaves the job up to his engineers.( ) Kubica is opposite and he spends hours on watching computer and video, and thoroughly analyze things. Kimi is in the middle. As necessary, he gives his time for his engineers, and he also do analyze computer if it is necessary. it’s Kimi’s style, but he seems to be well-adjusted depending on the situation. Kimi is extremely blessed driver for us.”

Rafael Nadal Conquers Another Clay Court Tournament

Rafael Nadal is indeed the King of Clay, as evident from his win at the Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell finals just weeks after clinching the Monte Carlo title (defeating Novak Djokovic).

In an all-Spanish final, he defeated David Ferrer 7-6, 7-5, marking it his fourth time beating Ferrer in the final of this tournament.

Ferrer fought hard for the first set but was unable to covert five set points on his opponent’s serve when leading 6-5 and lost momentum, causing him a 7-1 loss in the tiebreak.

He managed to carve out a 5-4 lead in the second set but Nadal managed to win the next three games and sealed the victory with a backhand win.

This win for Nadal also means that he is the first player in the Open Era to win two ATP World Tour tournaments more than six times.
